SPECIAL SERVICES

Home Visits: This service is primarily for the screening of Aboriginal Elders and for clients of the service who are unable to attend the clinic or need to be encouraged to visit General Practitioners..
Sexual Health Services: This service is provided to educate the community of sexual problems and diseases.  Our Sexual Health Workers provide relevant support and/or treatment to do with sexually transmitted diseases.

Stolen Generation Counselling Services: We have Counsellors who can respond to a full range of emotional and social well-being issues for clients of the Stolen Generation.  This includes those people who are currently going through family reunion, counselling to provide advice to clients that maybe “at risk” and referrals to specialists.

Child Hearing Health Services: This service is provided both within the Clinics and by visiting the School’s within the region to screen for any hearing health problems.

Transportation Services: This is a complimentary service offered by Goondir and is available for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander clients who do not own a car or do not have access to a vehicle.  Goondir has strict policies for transportations and the main issue is our staff and clients safety. The Transport Co-Ordinator must first approve a request for transportation, with reasonable notice given.  Requests are arranged simply by calling reception at each Clinic and leaving relevant details.

SERVICE DEVELOPMENT

CHRONIC DISEASE

The Service has a high proportion of Clients with chronic disease such as Diabetes and Asthma.   Goondir is engaged in research programs funded by the Commonwealth Government and is in partnership with organisations such as The University of Southern Queensland (USQ) and Asthma Queensland.

The aim of these programs is to help the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to manage their condition better, particularly through the assistance of Aboriginal Health Workers. The experience gained by Goondir will help the organisation to service the community and promote self management of these chronic diseases.

ACCREDITATION

Goondir seek to continually improve the standard of service it provides to its Clients.  To achieve this, Goondir has become involved in Government sponsored accreditation schemes.

TRAINING AND STAFF DEVELOPMENT

Training is an important aspect of Goondir’s operations with all staff participating in professional developement training.  Every six months all Staff come together to participate in training and discussions on roles and responsibilities to improve the way we work.  The Governing Committee also receives yearly training and workshops to review the organisation’s plans and policies.  The Service believes that better trained people will be able to provide a better service.

Goondir’s Dalby practice has been recognised as a training centre for GP Registrars and Doctors who are gaining further training in Aboriginal Health.  It means that our Senior Medical Officer is a highly qualified and experienced Doctor who is able to train and mentor others.

Goondir is now moving toward becoming a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) so that it can encourage its staff to provide training both inhouse and externally.  This will mean that the better the skills of our staff, the better care our patients will experience.
