Our local Aboriginal Health Worker is located at the Community Health building at the Miles Hospital in Edith Street. The Miles Hospital is currently undergoing a major re-building upgrade - please enquire at the main reception office to locate the Goondir service.
The town of Miles is the centre of the Shire and is situated in the crossroads of the Warrego and Leichhardt Highways. The population of Miles is 1400 residents, with approximately 70 Aboriginal people in the community. Miles has many tourist destinations including the Miles Historic Village, which boasts features such as Dogwood Crossing, Private Sea-Shell collections, War Museum and Artesian Basin Centre.
Our Miles Health Worker also covers the Chinchilla and Tara regions. The name Chinchilla is believed to be derived from the Aboriginal word for cypress pine ‘Jinchilla’ and the town itself has been noted for its supply of cypress pine trees.
