The diabetes diagnosis, treatment and education service for indigenous clients
The Better Living Diabetes Program endeavours to help indigenous people with type two diabetes to better self manage their disease. It is based on the improvement and management of diet, physical activities and weight loss initiatives and to help them to increase and sustain their self management techniques.
Goondir hold weekly clinics for clients at their Dalby and Oakey facilities where there are regular checks on body weight , urinalysis, BP, BMI and BSL, together with education on diabetes in relation to diet and exercise and to address issues they need to work on or are working on in their self management.
Function days are also held as part of the program addressing diet, exercise and health in all areas which effect diabetes - e.g.:
A “Feed Me” day where local nutritionists and dietitians provide education in this area. “Let’s Get Physical” - an innovative exercise day encouraging people to adopt more exercise into their daily routine. A “De-stress” day - relaxation exercises together with neck and shoulder massage.
